Well, this has to be by far the edgiest anime I’ve seen in my life. All that misery is so absurd that Elfen Lied has nothing to do with it. Ok, it’s not as violent as the first one or some 90’s OVAs I have seen, but definitively it’s crappier.
Basically, there is a girl and all what happens to her is any kind of abuse you can think of added to a desire to commit suicide, she even tried to kill herself by jumping into a train tracks. That just happened in the first seconds of the show and when she arrived to school some one-dimensional evil bullies put a lot of pocket knives in her shoes, then tried to drown her in a toilet. The unjustified suffering does not end there, oh no man, her family behave like the bullies, the brother for example appears and punches her little poor sister for stupid reasons. How is it supposed that I take this garbage seriously? All what I know is that the main protagonist is suffering because everybody is a psychotic jerk; she only exists to suffer, nothing else. In other words, the whole conflict is childish and unrealistic, it wants as hell to make you cry but you can’t once you notice its cheap tricks.
Well, the plot would be so straight forward and nobody would care if the girl just commits suicide, that’s why this magical girl aspect is introduced, and in what other way than making the show edgier. She gets powers, she kills accidently a bunch of assholes who wanted to rape her (wow an attempted rape next to bullying cases, domestic violence and we are still watching the first episode!!!).
I also need to point out that her new look of mahou shojo is awful, she’s literally crying blood for god’s sake and wearing black completely like an emo, she was emo to begin with, but she wasn’t crying blood, had a bloody red hair neither a heart in her arms to make a parallelism with self-harm.
Although, another edgy magical girl appears and cuts off the throat of the main bully. She only exist as a lesbian romance interest for the protagonist. She is a victimized sociopath who wants to torture the guy that killed her parents in horrible ways. Ok, taking revenge is understandable until you see her not to give a shit to other people; she is equally a piece of filth.
Oh, let’s not forget that the premise is quite similar to another anime, more popular with better production values. These girls sold their souls to a demonic internet page called “Mahou Shojo Site” to get superpowers and do whatever sick liking they want. it’s yet another rip-off of Madoka Magica like Magical Girl Raising Project or Yuki Yuna is a Hero. Although, I dislike Madoka Magica for the same reasons I dislike this show, it doesn’t make a point, you watch those shows for the victimized girls and the fanservice of seeing little girls having a romantic attraction one to another, no matters if they are minors, no dude, just look this lesbian fetish because it’s deep.
The other magical girls are so bland; we have the one-dimensional evil bully, a crazy yandere, a trap, an idol yandere, an unexpressive ninja, etc. They have no much personality and are defined by their archetypes and the fetishes they represented. Also, the rest of the cast are psycho maniacs like that cringy otaku obsessed with that loli idol, also the protagonist’s brother is a caricature, and he’s even a meme.
What about the plot? The series is aimless for the most part, the lolis just confront an obstacle, then it’s sold, then another character is introduced, then she’s murdered and the process repeats many times until the revelation of what really is the Mahou Shoujo Site. The villains are defined like the rest of the cast by one characteristic, their motivations don’t exit, they want mass destruction and nothing else.
The end is crap, it finished with a homosexual rape, the villains are still living and the girls are friends despite that the fucking bully who wanted to kill the protagonist is now a friend of her (retarded), holy smokes.
Now, the visuals and music are so meh, even bad in many ways. The movement is limited and body language is robotic, the anatomy is disproportionate, they have huge heads and small bodies, the colors are gaudy, drawing consistency is petty, in one scene they could have a small mouth but when they laugh they turn into huge maniac smiles that have nothing to do with the first ones.
And let’s answer the comments of this review, you said that I’m a hater for give it 1/10. Well, tell me, how do I suppose to give it more than that to an edge-porn, tasteless rip-off full of fetishes, bad characterization and not even a damn ending? The production values are so amateurs that I can’t enjoy the gorefest or the action scene due to they're wooden and badly animated. So, let’s finish this review right now with me being a hater 'cause there's no reason to like this garbage.
