DIVINE INFLUENCER is a faith-based movie on Pure Flix about a 29-year-old woman whose wealthy but philanthropic Christian parents cut off her allowance, and the woman ironically ends up at a homeless dormitory for women. DIVINE INFLUENCER is a heartwarming, uplifting movie about a spoiled, selfish woman finding Jesus and learning to help others.
The day after her 29th birthday, young Olivia Golden, a self-absorbed fashion influencer on social media, gets fired from her job for bad-mouthing her boss online and is evicted from her apartment for not paying the rent. The same day, her Christian parents call her from Europe, tell her they’re giving away most of their money and cutting her off. Apparently, this isn’t the first time Olivia got fired from a job.
In desperation, Olivia goes to Kimberly, the daughter of her boss, to ask her if she can crash at her place. Kimberly agrees, so long as Olivia takes care of her two pet dogs and her pet snake, Stanley, while she’s away for the weekend.
While walking the dogs, Olivia runs into Ryan, who lives in Kimberly’s complex and works at a small local homeless shelter called Harvest. Ryan went to Olivia’s high school. He invites her to come to the shelter’s Sunday dinner. Olivia didn’t know she’d be volunteering for the evening, but she doesn’t mind, though it’s clearly not her thing. She
surprised, however, to learn that a well-known local chef prepares the meals for the people. It turns out that Ryan actually manages the Harvest Rescue Mission.
The next day, Kimberly returns to her apartment, only learn that Olivia forgot to turn on the heating lamp for Stanley the snake, who almost died. Kimberly kicks out Olivia, who sleeps in her car.
Olivia tries to find a job and a place to stay, but it doesn’t go well. She even gets her car towed to the local impound lot. In desperation, she shows up at the Harvest Rescue Mission and asks Ryan if he has a job. It just so happens, that, only a minute before, the female RA at the women’s dorm just suddenly quit. So, Ryan gives the job to Olivia.
Olivia finds the job hard at first, because she’s not used to the kind of work the rescue mission needs her to do.
However, Olivia makes two mistakes that jeopardize her job at the rescue mission and the new friendships she’s made there.
DIVINE INFLUENCER is a heartwarming, uplifting movie about a spoiled, selfish woman finding Jesus and learning to help others. As Olivia, the woman in question, Lara Silva does a fine job showing how her character moves from a self-centered person to a person who cares about other people. The rest of the cast offers excellent support.
DIVINE INFLUENCER tells a story meant for older adolescents and families, but it’s a wholesome, family-friendly movie that avoids some of the harsher realities of many homeless people and people living on the streets, such as substance abuse and mental illness. Some may criticize the movie for this, but the movie is a good way to introduce children to the idea of helping people less fortunate than themselves. Especially since the movie focuses on putting God, Jesus and biblical principles front and center.
